Sneem DramSoc is an amateur dramatic society based in Sneem, County Kerry, Ireland.

About

The DramSoc puts on one main production each year, during the summer, preparations for which start usually in early spring. In November, we do a single performance of a (normally) humorous piece as part of the Sneem International Storytelling Festival.

We have been known to tour productions, and also perform in the nearby Parknasilla Resort Hotel, but these days our main “home” is Sneem Community Centre, behind St. Michael's Church. The Centre underwent a major refurbishment in 2014.

Our base for the November Sneem International Storytelling Festival performance each year is the Sacré Cœur Restaurant in North Square, where we brave “in the round” performances without the safety net of a prompter!

Who we are

We're an eclectic bunch with diverse backgrounds, which makes for an exciting society!

“Blow-ins”, locals, professionals, retirees, farmers, shop-workers, homemakers, butchers, hoteliers, lecturers, students and even school pupils, have been, or are, all part of the mix.

We're always short of young members though, especially for acting rôles, so if you're young and interested please contact us!

A bit of history

The DramSoc has been in existence since at least 1940, though there have been times when it was inactive for brief periods, most notably 1988 to 1992.

Alas, from the point of view of the archive page, material for before 2000 is limited and in very short supply. If you happen to have such material stored away somewhere, then we'd be very grateful if you would contact us. We promise to return any such material in the same condition as it was handed to us - indeed, photographic material we might even be able to return copied and in better condition!
